Endangered by and a victim of deforestation

Ailurus fulgens

Dear Art Blog Friends

My first Image of the Month for 2016 is this red panda – a 29cm x 21cm Derwent Artists on Smooth White Bristol Board.

Although my reference source originates from a photograph I took at Longleat Safari Park last year, let us not forget the devastation caused by logging and the spread of agriculture which makes the wild members of this Ailuridae family an endangered species.

Such a tragic outcome for a shy and solitary animal whose simple existence relies upon the rainy, high-altitude habitat in the mountains of Nepal, northern Myanmar and in central China.

Best Wishes
