Once upon a time in Anchorsholme….

Illustration and self-portrait of Anchorsholme artist, Julie Ann Maguire

Near the North Promenade far, far away, in the dim-lit dormer, an unknown artist found an ancient manuscript. Unread by King Richard II since 1380, somehow the written words were crisp, clear and legible, as if the author had intended for its narrative to remain buried until the moment its real meaning could be found. But how did it get there? What did it mean? Why choose now and an artist to reveal its hidden secret? Do you believe in fairy tales?

Home Comforts

Anchorsholme artist, Julie Ann Maguire has won awards for her artwork and continues to emerge as a commissioned artist with wildlife, pets, animal and human portraits among her growing art portfolio. Her style leans towards an illustrative approach. Mainly vibrant with colour and lots of contrast, fun is a key factor in the everyday topics she portrays. Whether a commissioned artwork, personal project, practice painting or just in testing a theory, she thrives on the experimentation and the challenge of learning something new through self-discovery. Nothing is off limits so long as it is colourful, bold and distinctive.

For those who DO believe in fairy tales, moving from a very busy existence in Bradford, West Yorkshire with her husband and family in September 2019 was like a dream come true. Setting up residence in Anchorsholme, after several months of property and conveyancing delays, shortly before a global pandemic stopped the whole world on its orbit, helped refocus her creative spirit and gave her plenty of breathing space to consider future aims.
